Best poster award at 2021 API Summit

Mohamed Amgad received best poster award at the 2021 Association for Pathology Informatics Summit for his abstract MuTILs: a multiresolution approach for computational TILs assessment using clinical guidelines. This work describes a new approach that implements clinical scoring guidelines for Tumor Infiltrating Lymphocytes (TILs) by combining tissue region segmentation and cell detection and classification methods. TILs are emerging as an important diagnostic and predictive biomarker in solid tumors. Manual TILs assessment suffers from inter- and intra-rater variability, motivating the development of computational assessment tools.

Mohamed and Brian Vadasz, who is a pathology resident at Northwestern both received trainee awards from API this year.
